Second letter of Peter, Chapter 2:
22What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”
It looks like the Republicans, having spending four whole days pretending they actually disapproved strongly of what Trump has been saying or doing, feel it’s safer to not disapprove so much.

They think they have found themselves the sweet spot of demanding that Trump step aside, stop saying unacceptable things, not campaign for him or endorse him, but …. let it be known that they are voting for him.
1 Titus 16:
They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.
An example:
Senator Deb Fischer, a Republican from Nebraska who said on Saturday that Mr. Trump’s remarks were “disgusting” and that he should drop out of the race, said on Tuesday that she still planned to vote for Mr. Trump.
“Like most Nebraskans, I am fully committed to defeating Hillary Clinton,” Ms. Fischer told a Nebraska radio station. “I support the Republican ticket. and I plan to vote for Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence on November 8th.”
I guess the whole “Trump should step aside” is another way of asking that they not be put to the choice of doing what’s best for the country or the party in such an obvious and high profile way. They’d rather stay below the radar on that point.
