Make no mistake about it....
Nothing less than the integrity and viability of our democracy have been put on the line by the recent crop of Republicans and the attacks will become more violent. I can only hope that the more traditional Republicans of old, will wake-up and start reigning-in this radical, juvenile, selfish wing of their party.
"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Because I am finding it, unforgivable what they are doing to my country.
I guess it should be no surprise that since the days when the over-grown, frat-boy, cheerleader, scion of privilege assumed the reigns of power, that "win-at-all-costs" has become the Republican god of modus operandi. "Consequences? We don't need no stinking consequences!" is what mama's little prince learned from an early age.
With not just neglect of, but active contempt for, the principles of our democracy and fairness and civilized political debate, the Republicans are destroying the nation. They are aware, but care not, what they are doing to our institutions and the harmful effects on American lives and the future of our country.
It may seem trivial (you can cut through a stone with water - one drop at a time), as with most complaints against their behavior, but taken together in a long-term view, it isn't. Today's unscrupulous attack is on the stage design for Senator Obama's acceptance speech tonight in Denver. Sorry that I haven't compiled links on it, but you will soon see and read it all over the place.
The Republican machine is choosing to ignore what you and I know and cherish about symbols of our democracy! Everywhere in our country and around the world, credit for the first representational democracy is assigned to ancient Greece. Very often, as an expression of the reverence and appreciation for the principles of that political system are represented in architecture that echoes the distinctive style of that period.
To the question posed to the Republicans, "Is nothing sacred?" You can be assured that their answer is, "No."
It's disgusting and Americans should not be accepting this. It is just one more drop eroding our spectacular, beloved democracy - I'm not kidding.
Those who live in Greek-revival, white homes, should not cast stones!
