it seems to me that making Americans buy health care from a company might be illegal and unconstitutional. How can the federal government force Americans to buy a product?
Car insurance is different...
Car insurance is state mandated, is not a federal law.
Besides, i was under the impression that you can opt out of buying car insurance by simply by not owning a car and using public transportation.
Sure, anyone can opt out of living as suicide is an option, however, isnt suicide somewhat illegal? furthermore, it seems to me that it would be hard to self abort before your initial birthday.
So, is it just me? Because it seems that simply living (being alive) should not be a requirement to purchase a product let alone be subject to a law with a penality if such a law is circumvented.
How can the federal government force a person to follow any law that requires one to buy a mandated product. A health insurance mandate for simply being alive is illogical, can be a burden and is seemingly illegal.
(satire)
does this open up the door for companies to regulate and sell air for breathing? Will clean, unpolluted air be a premimum?
Besides, what would be the penalties for not having health insurance?
A fine? (would this fine be more than a simple income tax??)
Time in prison? (who is going to pay for them to be in jail)?
(oh yea, put the poor guy in jail for not buying my product)
Making health insurance a federal mandate (forcing people buy insurance from any company) is illogical, probably unconstitutional and downright stupid.
The only way to make health insurance "mandatory" is to provide very basic emergency coverage to everyone which is supported by the taxpayers themselves.
